The crowd at Friday's non-league challenge between the Washington County Panthers (Plymouth, NC) and the visiting Holmes Aces (Edenton, NC), observed Washington County's basketball team edge Holmes by a score of 50-45.

The Panthers (5-2) will now prepare for their challenge against Perquimans (Hertford, NC). The Pirates come into the 1A Four Rivers challenge with a 11-0 record. In their last challenge, Perquimans edged North East Carolina Prep (Tarboro, NC), 67-11, in a league challenge.

In their next game, the Aces encounter the Pasquotank County Panthers (Elizabeth City, NC) in a 2A/3A Northeastern Coastal challenge, on Tuesday, January 7. Holmes will attempt to improve on its 2-6 season record. The Panthers come into the challenge with a 2-7 record after their 50-38 non-league loss to Oscar Smith (Chesapeake, VA).
