Utah High School Basketball - Lehi can't hold off Payson

Payson Lions (Payson, UT) supporters left the game happy Friday as they witnessed their basketball squad hold off the visiting Lehi Pioneers (Lehi, UT), 49-48 in a non-league match.
With the victory, Payson advances its record to 10-1 on the year. The Lions travel to Orem (Orem, UT) to face the Tigers in a 4A Region 8 match on Tuesday, January 7. The Tigers enter the match with a record of 3-10. Orem won 43-36 in their recent non-league match against Park City (Park City, UT)
The Pioneers now own a 8-5 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to American Fork for a 6A Region 3 match on Friday, January 10.

Game Summary: The game started out very slow for the Pioneers against #4 ranked Payson. At the end of the first quarter Payson was ahead by the score of 17 to 4. At the end of the first half Lehi trailed by 11 points. Both teams scored 11 points in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, Lehi hit 5 three-point baskets and came back to tie the game as the buzzer sounded. The overtime period was won by Payson scoring 6 points and Lehi scored 5. Lehi shot 9 foul shots in the contest and Payson shot 22. That has been the pattern this season.
