The crowd at Friday's league challenge between the Vandalia Vandals (Vandalia, IL) and the visiting Gillespie Miners (Gillespie, IL), observed Vandalia's basketball team overwhelm Gillespie by a score of 82-59.

The Vandals (10-14) will now prepare for their challenge against Carlinville (Carlinville, IL). The Cavaliers come into the South Central challenge with a 10-12 record. In their last challenge, Carlinville trounced Bunker Hill (Bunker Hill, IL), 48-38, in a non-league challenge.

In their next game, the Miners battle the Pana Panthers (Pana, IL) in a South Central challenge, on Saturday, February 1. Gillespie will attempt to improve on its 5-16 season record. The Panthers come into the challenge with a 7-14 record after their 53-38 non-league loss to Mattoon (Mattoon, IL).
