West Craven Eagles (Vanceboro, NC) backers were in high spirits Friday as they witnessed their basketball squad thwart the visiting East Carteret Mariners (Beaufort, NC), 54-40 in a non-league bout.

With the win, West Craven upgrades its record to 10-0 on the season. The Eagles host Farmville Central (Farmville, NC) to play the Jaguars in a 2A Eastern Plains bout on Tuesday, January 9. The Jaguars go into the bout with a record of 6-5. Farmville Central won 65-48 in their recent league bout against Washington (Washington, NC)

Next up, the Mariners play the Northside - Pinetown Panthers (Pinetown, NC) in a 1A/2A Coastal Plains bout, on Tuesday, January 9. East Carteret will attempt to upgrade on its 11-2 season record. The Panthers go into the bout with a 11-1 record after their 44-41 non-league win over Bear Grass Charter (Williamston, NC).
