United South Panthers (Laredo, TX) backers were pleased Friday as they saw their basketball squad hold off the host Edinburg Bobcats (Edinburg, TX), 56-54 in a non-league bout.

With the victory, United South upgrades its record to 19-6 on the campaign. The Panthers travel to Alexander (Laredo, TX) to play the Bulldogs in a 6A Region IV District 30 bout on Friday, January 13. The Bulldogs come into the bout with a record of 8-11. Alexander lost 65-60 in their recent non-league bout against East Central (San Antonio, TX)

Next up, the Bobcats play the La Joya Coyotes (La Joya, TX) in a 6A Region IV District 31 bout, on Friday, January 13. Edinburg will attempt to upgrade on its 16-8 season record. The Coyotes come into the bout with a 17-10 record after their 60-57 non-league loss to Santa Gertrudis Academy (Kingsville, TX).
