The Mercer County Golden Eagles (Aledo, IL) basketball nipped the visiting Newman Central Catholic Comets (Sterling, IL), 44-42 in Saturday's non-league test.

The Golden Eagles (10-6) will now prepare for their test against Abingdon/Avon (Abingdon, IL). The Tornadoes go into the Lincoln Trail test with a 8-9 record.
