Shiprock Chieftains (Shiprock, NM) backers were in high spirits Saturday as they witnessed their basketball squad bounce the visiting Newcomb Skyhawks (Newcomb, NM), 71-50 in a non-league bout.

With the win, Shiprock upgrades its record to 1-1 on the season. The Chieftains host Farmington (Farmington, NM) to play the Scorpions in a non-league bout on Monday, January 8. The Scorpions go into the bout with a record of 5-1. Farmington won 59-38 in their recent non-league bout against Los Lunas (Los Lunas, NM)

Next up, the Skyhawks play the Navajo Pine Warriors (Navajo, NM) in a non-league bout, on Tuesday, January 9. Newcomb will attempt to upgrade on its 0-7 season record. The Warriors go into the bout with a 1-3 record after their 46-29 non-league loss to Escalante (Tierra Amarilla, NM).
