In Monday's non-league contest, the host Newport Greyhounds basketball team scored a close 37-35 triumph over the Carlisle Bison.

The Greyhounds (11-6) will now prepare for their contest against Manila (Manila, AR). The Lions go into the 3A Region 3 contest with a 11-5 record. In their last contest, Manila was tipped by Forrest City (Forrest City, AR), 64-43, in a non-league contest.

In their next game, the Bison battle the Des Arc Eagles (Des Arc, AR) in a 2A Region 6 contest, on Friday, January 10. Carlisle will attempt to better on its 8-9 season record. The Eagles go into the contest with a 4-9 record after their 68-28 league loss to England (England, AR).
