Tennessee High School Basketball - Murphy can't hold off McMinn County

January 8, 2024: Athens, TN 37303

The McMinn County Cherokees basketball team scored 72 points and restricted the visiting Murphy Bulldogs to 66 in the Cherokees non-league victory on Monday.

The Cherokees now sport a 4-9 record. They put it on the line next when they host Cleveland for a 4A District 5 bout on Friday, January 12. McMinn County will play a Blue Raiders squad coming off a 69-53 non-league loss to Oak Ridge (Oak Ridge, TN). The Blue Raiders record now stands at 2-10.

Next up, the Bulldogs play the Nantahala Hawks (Topton, NC) in a 1A Smoky Mountain bout, on Tuesday, January 9. Murphy will attempt to upgrade on its 8-5 season record. The Hawks go into the bout with a 3-5 record after their 76-65 league loss to Blue Ridge Early College (Cashiers, NC).
