Fans at Saturday's non-league contest between the Wilmington Wildcats (Wilmington, IL) and the visiting Newark Norsemen (Newark, IL), observed Wilmington's volleyball team hold off Newark by a count of 2-1.
The Wildcats (22-8) will now prepare for their contest against Streator (Streator, IL). The Bulldogs enter the Illinois Central Eight contest with a 13-13 record. In their last contest, Streator got by East Peoria (East Peoria, IL), 2-1, in a non-league contest.
Next, the Norsemen battle the Prairie Central Hawks (Fairbury, IL) in a non-league contest, on Monday, October 21. Newark will attempt to move on its 21-9 season record. The Hawks enter the contest with a 11-17 record after their 2-0 league loss to Monticello (Monticello, IL).
Match Summary
The Lady Wildcats finished 3rd out of 12 teams at the Bradley Bourbonnais Volleyball Tournament on Saturday. They ended 2-2 for the day beating Tri-Valley 25-15, 25-21 and Newark for 3rd 11-25, 25-21,15-9 and losing to Beecher 25-15,19-25, 11-15 and BBCHS 20-25, 25-19,11-15. Rachel Smith and Molly Southall were nominated to the All-Tournament Team. Smith had 30 kills, 31 digs, 4 blocks and 3 aces for the day. Southall had 48 assists, 33 digs,15 kills, 4 blocks and 2 aces. Also having an amazing day was Skylar Knight with 52 digs, 6 aces, and 3 assists, Reese Van Duyne with 25 kills, 13 digs, 4 blocks and 4 aces, and Maggie Lindsey with 12 kills, 11 blocks, 9 digs, and 6 aces.
