Fans at Tuesday's league contest between the Southwestern Piasa Birds (Piasa, IL) and the host Gillespie Miners (Gillespie, IL), observed Southwestern's volleyball team hold off Gillespie by a count of 2-1.

The Piasa Birds (15-14) will now prepare for their contest against Greenville (Greenville, IL). The Comets enter the South Central contest with a 8-19 record. In their last contest, Greenville got by Vandalia (Vandalia, IL), 2-1, in a league contest.

Next, the Miners battle the Litchfield Purple Panthers (Litchfield, IL) in a South Central contest, on Thursday, October 23. Gillespie will attempt to move on its 10-20 season record. The Purple Panthers enter the contest with a 6-21 record after their 2-1 non-league loss to Marquette Catholic (Alton, IL).
