The Newton Tigers held off the host Port Gibson Blue Waves football squad by a tally of 34-31 in Saturday's non-league bout.

In their next game, the Tigers face the Philadelphia Tornadoes (Philadelphia, MS) in a 2A Region 5 bout, on Thursday, October 27. Newton will attempt to advance on its 5-5 season record. The Tornadoes enter the bout with a 4-5 record after their 35-7 league win over Kemper County (DeKalb, MS).

The Blue Waves (4-4) will now prepare for their bout against Tylertown (Tylertown, MS). The Chiefs enter the 3A Region 7 bout with a 4-5 record. In their last bout, Tylertown was nudged by Jefferson County (Fayette, MS), 34-0, in a league bout.
