Hemphill Hornets (Hemphill, TX) fans went home in high spirits Friday as they saw their football team triumph over the visiting Merryville Panthers (Merryville, LA), 44-12 in a non-league battle.

With the win, Hemphill improves its record to 1-4 on the season. The Hornets travel to Timpson (Timpson, TX) to play the Bears in a 2A-1 Region III District 11 battle on Friday, October 11. The Bears go into the battle with a record of 2-2. Timpson lost 45-27 in their recent non-league battle against Wolfe City (Wolfe City, TX)

The Panthers now have a 3-2 record. They play next when they travel to Basile for a 1A District 4 battle on Friday, October 11. Merryville will play a Bearcats team coming off a 20-11 non-league win over Ville Platte (Ville Platte, LA). The Bearcats record now stands at 3-2.
