Fans at Saturday's non-league contest between the Pinole Valley Spartans (Pinole, CA) and the host Holy Names Monarchs (Oakland, CA), observed Pinole Valley's volleyball team top Holy Names by a tally of 2-0.

The Spartans (13-12) will now prepare for their contest against Mission San Jose (Fremont, CA). The Warriors enter the non-league contest with a 12-6 record. In their last contest, Mission San Jose was beaten by Moreau Catholic (Hayward, CA), 3-1, in a league contest.

In their next game, the Monarchs encounter the Oakland Tech Bulldogs (Oakland, CA) in a non-league test, on Saturday, October 4. Holy Names will attempt to improve on its 4-10 season record. The Bulldogs go into the test with a 10-5 record after their 3-1 league win over Oakland (Oakland, CA).
