In Thursday's league match, the visiting Pelahatchie Chiefs football squad scored a good 48-34 victory over the Newton Tigers.

The Chiefs (3-4) will now prepare for their match against Lake (Lake, MS). The Hornets enter the 2A Region 5 match with a 4-3 record. In their last match, Lake thwarted Puckett (Puckett, MS), 36-0, in a league match.

Next up, the Tigers play the Scott Central Rebels (Forest, MS) in a 2A Region 5 battle, on Friday, October 17. Newton will attempt to advance on its 1-6 season record. The Rebels go into the battle with a 1-6 record after their 31-25 non-league loss to Leake Central (Carthage, MS).
