Fans at Thursday's non-league challenge between the Salem Academy Crusaders (Salem, OR) and the visiting Newport Cubs (Newport, OR), saw Salem Academy's basketball squad overcome Newport by a tally of 69-55.

With the victory, Salem Academy improves its record to 1-0 on the campaign. The Crusaders travel to Kennedy (Mt. Angel, OR) to confront the Trojans in a 2A Tri-River challenge on Thursday, January 26. The Trojans come into the challenge with a record of 1-0.

Next up, the Cubs confront the St. Stephen's Academy (Beaverton, OR) in a non-league challenge, on Friday, December 2. Newport will attempt to improve on its 0-1 season record.
