South San Antonio West Cougars (San Antonio, TX) backers were pleased Tuesday as they saw their basketball squad hold off the visiting Nixon-Smiley Mustangs (Nixon, TX), 35-34 in a non-league bout.

With the victory, South San Antonio West upgrades its record to 9-9 on the campaign. The Cougars host Dilley (Dilley, TX) to play the Wolves in a non-league bout on Tuesday, January 2. The Wolves come into the bout with a record of 0-10. Dilley lost 41-23 in their recent non-league bout against Karnes City (Karnes City, TX)

Next up, the Mustangs play the George West Longhorns (George West, TX) in a non-league bout, on Thursday, December 21. Nixon-Smiley will attempt to upgrade on its 5-14 season record. The Longhorns come into the bout with a 13-7 record after their 51-43 non-league loss to McMullen County (Tilden, TX).
