The Pope County Pirates basketball team scored 71 points and restricted the visiting Cobden Appleknockers to 34 in the Pirates non-league victory on Wednesday.

The Pirates now sport a 5-6 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Cairo for a non-league contest on Thursday, December 28. Pope County will battle a Pilots team coming off a 75-50 non-league win over Elverado (Elkville, IL). The Pilots record now stands at 3-8.

The Appleknockers (7-5) will now prepare for their contest against Joppa-Maple Grove (Joppa, IL). The Rangers come into the South Egyptian contest with a 6-8 record. In their last contest, Joppa-Maple Grove triumphed over Egyptian (Tamms, IL), 69-42, in a non-league contest.
