Gaston Day Spartans (Gastonia, NC) boosters left the game satisfied Friday as they witnessed their basketball squad notch a victory over the host Shelby Golden Lions (Shelby, NC), 71-51 in a non-league match.

With the victory, Gaston Day upgrades its record to 11-4 on the year. The Spartans travel to Carolina International (Concord, NC) to face the Comets in a non-league match on Saturday, January 4. The Comets enter the match with a record of 9-1. Carolina International lost 75-71 in their recent non-league match against Hickory Ridge (Harrisburg, NC)

The Golden Lions now sport a 3-4 record. They put it on the line next when they host Kings Mountain for a non-league match on Friday, January 3. Shelby will battle a Mountaineers team coming off a 75-24 non-league win over East Rutherford (Forest City, NC). The Mountaineers record now stands at 6-2.
