Newton Eagles (Newton, IL) backers were pleased Wednesday as they saw their basketball squad hold off the host Dieterich Movin Maroons (Dieterich, IL), 59-52 in a non-league bout.

With the victory, Newton upgrades its record to 8-9 on the campaign. The Eagles travel to Lawrenceville (Lawrenceville, IL) to play the Indians in a Little Illini bout on Thursday, January 5. The Indians come into the bout with a record of 1-12. Lawrenceville lost 68-32 in their recent non-league bout against Woodlawn (Woodlawn, IL)

Next up, the Movin Maroons play the Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Bobcats (Cowden, IL) in a National Trail bout, on Tuesday, January 3. Dieterich will attempt to upgrade on its 8-8 season record. The Bobcats come into the bout with a 9-5 record after their 58-43 non-league loss to Tri-County [Kansas/Shiloh/Oakland] (Kansas, IL).
