In Saturday's non-league contest, the visiting Athens Hornets basketball team scored a close 48-42 triumph over the Greenville Lions.

The Hornets (12-7) will now prepare for their contest against Ennis (Ennis, TX). The Lions go into the non-league contest with a 8-11 record. In their last contest, Ennis nipped Gilmer (Gilmer, TX), 71-34, in a non-league contest.

In their next game, the Lions battle the Denison Yellow Jackets (Denison, TX) in a 5A Region II District 9 contest, on Friday, January 3. Greenville will attempt to better on its 13-8 season record. The Yellow Jackets go into the contest with a 15-4 record after their 55-42 non-league win over Lebanon Trail (Frisco, TX).
