Caldwell Hornets (Caldwell, TX) backers were pleased Thursday as they saw their basketball squad hold off the host Waskom Wildcats (Waskom, TX), 44-43 in a non-league bout.

With the victory, Caldwell upgrades its record to 10-13 on the campaign. The Hornets travel to La Grange (La Grange, TX) to play the Leopards in a 4A Region III District 22 bout on Tuesday, January 3. The Leopards come into the bout with a record of 10-8. La Grange won 49-45 in their recent non-league bout against Cuero (Cuero, TX)

Next up, the Wildcats play the Jefferson Bulldogs (Jefferson, TX) in a 3A Region II District 16 bout, on Tuesday, January 3. Waskom will attempt to upgrade on its 5-9 season record. The Bulldogs come into the bout with a 13-4 record after their 62-41 non-league loss to Chapel Hill (Mount Pleasant, TX).
