The Payne Tech Lions (Newark, NJ) basketball nipped the visiting Hackensack Comets (Hackensack, NJ), 56-50 in Friday's non-league test.

The Lions (4-2) will now prepare for their test against Roselle Catholic (Roselle, NJ). The Lions go into the non-league test with a 0-10 record. In their last test, Roselle Catholic was tipped by Long Island Lutheran (Brookville, NY), 92-48, in a non-league test.

The Comets now own a 4-2 record. They play next when they host Northern Highlands for a Big North - Freedom test on Tuesday, January 2. Hackensack will encounter a Highlanders squad coming off a 57-43 non-league win over Pascack Hills (Montvale, NJ). The Highlanders record now stands at 5-1.
