The Vel Phillips Memorial Spartans (Madison, WI) basketball knocked off the visiting Hortonville Polar Bears (Hortonville, WI), 81-72 in Friday's non-league test.

The Spartans (4-6) will now prepare for their test against Janesville Craig (Janesville, WI). The Cougars go into the Big Eight test with a 5-5 record.

The Polar Bears now own a 6-4 record. They play next when they host Neenah for a Fox Valley test on Tuesday, January 2. Hortonville will encounter a Rockets squad coming off a 79-50 non-league loss to Wisconsin Lutheran (Milwaukee, WI). The Rockets record now stands at 4-5.
