In Sunday's non-league contest, the visiting Wachusett Regional Mountaineers basketball team scored a close 44-39 triumph over the St. John's Pioneers.

The Mountaineers (2-3) will now prepare for their contest against Fitchburg (Fitchburg, MA). The Red Raiders go into the Midland-Wachusett A contest with a 0-5 record. In their last contest, Fitchburg was tipped by Oakmont Regional (Ashburnham, MA), 55-36, in a non-league contest.

In their next game, the Pioneers battle the Doherty Memorial Highlanders (Worcester, MA) in a non-league contest, on Friday, January 3. St. John's will attempt to better on its 3-2 season record. The Highlanders go into the contest with a 6-0 record after their 80-66 non-league win over Shrewsbury (Shrewsbury, MA).
