Newton Eagles (Newton, IL) backers were in high spirits Saturday as they witnessed their basketball squad thwart the host Mattoon Greenwave (Mattoon, IL), 53-40 in a non-league bout.

With the win, Newton upgrades its record to 12-4 on the season. The Eagles travel to Rochester (Rochester, IL) to play the Rockets in a non-league bout on Tuesday, January 2. The Rockets go into the bout with a record of 6-9. Rochester won 66-56 in their recent non-league bout against Galesburg (Galesburg, IL)

Next up, the Greenwave play the Pana Panthers (Pana, IL) in a non-league bout, on Tuesday, January 2. Mattoon will attempt to upgrade on its 6-8 season record. The Panthers go into the bout with a 3-8 record after their 51-28 non-league win over Cumberland (Toledo, IL).
