The Surry County Cougars (Dendron, VA) basketball nipped the host Mathews Blue Devils (Mathews, VA), 48-45 in Thursday's non-league contest.
The Cougars now sport a 4-17 record. They put it on the line next when they host Windsor for a Tri-Rivers contest on Friday, February 2. Surry County will battle a Dukes team coming off a 54-38 league win over Appomattox Regional Governor's Arts & Tech (Petersburg, VA). The Dukes record now stands at 4-15.
The Blue Devils (3-16) will now prepare for their contest against Gloucester (Gloucester, VA). The Dukes enter the non-league contest with a 0-17 record. In their last contest, Gloucester was nudged by Bethel (Hampton, VA), 69-34, in a league contest.
