The Marshfield Pirates (Coos Bay, OR) basketball nipped the host Newport Cubs (Newport, OR), 60-55 in Friday's non-league test.
The Pirates (10-11) will now prepare for their test against Marist (Eugene, OR). The Spartans go into the 4A Sky Em test with a 10-11 record. In their last test, Marist was tipped by Junction City (Junction City, OR), 56-31, in a league test.
The Cubs now own a 8-12 record. They play next when they travel to Stayton for a 4A Oregon West test on Monday, February 13. Newport will encounter a Eagles squad coming off a 66-52 league loss to Cascade (Turner, OR). The Eagles record now stands at 13-5.
