La Joya Coyotes (La Joya, TX) backers exited the stadium thrilled Thursday as they saw their softball squad nip the host Highlands Owls (San Antonio, TX), 8-7 in a non-league challenge.

The Coyotes now own a 3-0 record. They take the field next when they travel to Santa Gertrudis Academy for a non-league challenge on Friday, February 17. La Joya will battle a Lions squad coming off a 7-3 non-league win over Calhoun (Port Lavaca, TX). The Lions record now stands at 2-1.

With the loss, Highlands falls to 1-1 on the campaign. The Owls host Sam Houston (San Antonio, TX) to battle the Hurricanes in a 5A Region IV District 27 challenge on Tuesday, February 21. The Hurricanes enter the challenge with a record of 0-1. Sam Houston lost 19-0 in their recent league challenge against Burbank (San Antonio, TX)
