Winn Mavericks (Eagle Pass, TX) backers exited the stadium thrilled Friday as they saw their softball squad nip the visiting La Vernia Bears (La Vernia, TX), 8-5 in a non-league challenge.

The Mavericks now own a 4-0 record. They take the field next when they travel to Southwest for a 5A Region IV District 28 challenge on Tuesday, February 20. Winn will face a Dragons squad coming off a 8-7 non-league win over Dobie (Houston, TX). The Dragons record now stands at 1-1.

With the loss, La Vernia falls to 1-2 on the campaign. The Bears host Devine (Devine, TX) to face the Warhorses in a non-league challenge on Tuesday, February 20. The Warhorses enter the challenge with a record of 1-1. Devine lost 6-3 in their recent non-league challenge against Antonian Prep (San Antonio, TX)
