In Friday's league challenge, the Smithfield Sentinels (Esmond, RI) ice hockey team nudged the host Mount St. Charles Academy Mounties (Woonsocket, RI), by a margin of 3-2.

The Sentinels now possess a 9-7 record. They put it on the line next when they host Ridgefield for a non-league challenge on Saturday, February 3. Smithfield will clash with a Tigers team coming off a 2-0 league win over St. Joseph (Trumbull, CT). The Tigers record now stands at 10-5.

The Mounties (6-9) will now prepare for their challenge against East Greenwich (East Greenwich, RI). The Avengers enter the State Championship Division challenge with a 2-13 record. In their last challenge, East Greenwich was edged by Burrillville (Harrisville, RI), 7-3, in a league challenge.
