The Saratoga Falcons basketball team scored 65 points and limited the visiting South San Francisco Warriors to 37 in the Falcons non-league triumph on Friday.
The Falcons now have a 14-11 record.
With the loss, South San Francisco falls to 8-16 on the campaign.
Hello Falcons fans, and welcome to CCS playoff action! Tonight we welcome the visiting South San Francisco Warriors to Saratoga!
South San Francisco is 8-15 this year, 2-9 in league and 6-6 non-league, after last year’s 11-14/3-5 season
Their roster lists just 8 players: 4 seniors, 1 junior, and 3 sophomores
These 2 schools have met 6 times in the 21 years of MaxPreps history, Toga with a 5-1 lead, and winning the last 5
The last time they met was February 2020, the Falcons with a 41-37 win
Interesting tidbits: the last time Toga made CCS, they also played South City in the first round, which was that 41-37 victory…
Also, the last time the Falcons won CCS, 2015-16, they beat South City in the title game to claim the championship!
In CCS, Toga is ranked #70, South City #90, though the Falcons’ schedule strength this year was a little weaker, at -1.8 to South City’s -.8
Of their 8 wins, the Warriors had some blowouts, winning by 50, 42, 33, 30, 25, and 19
And in their last 9 games, in addition to 50- and 25-point wins, some losses were by just 2, 4, 8, 10, and 12, so they were in many of those
Toga is 6-4 at home this year, South City 3-6 on the road and at neutral sites
The Falcons are scoring 43ppg to the Warriors’ 41, and giving up 33 to the Warriors’ 44
Toga has a lot to be proud of this year! They return to CCS for the first time since 2019-20, and their 13-11 record is the best since then!
They’re on a 3-year track of improvement, last year narrowing their loss margins to many close ones, and this year turning many into wins!
They won several games by over 40 points, the first time that’s happened in the 21 years of MaxPreps recordkeeping!
They also scored 67 points once, topped just 5 times during all of their games over those 21 years
Defensively, they set an all-time record low when they gave up just 12 to Harbor, while 17 to Independence & 19 to Lick were also close
They began the season 6-2, which only 4 prior Falcons teams had topped, and a later 7-3 mark was 7th-best
And their 13-11 overall record tied them for 3rd-best in SVCAL!
Of the 8 SVCAL teams, 5 made CCS in the 6 divisions. #1 Mtn View is D1 #11 seed, Paly D1 unseeded, Gunn D2 #9, Wilcox D2 #11, & Toga D3 #10
Cupertino, Santa Clara, & MacDonald weren’t selected. The Open Division is top teams regardless of size, the other 5 divisions sortedby size
The winner of tonight’s game plays tomorrow, Saturday 2/22, at 7pm up at #7 seed El Camino HS. That’s South City’s district rival.
The winner of that game then earns a trip to Tuesday’s CCS quarterfinal match against #3 seed Mills HS, from the PAL upper division

Toga built a nearly 30-point lead and was up 46-17, and then was outscored 2-12 afterwards

Urvi Iyer went totally nuts out there tonight, scoring 26, followed by Steffen 13, Williams 12, Sahni 6, Dhatri Iyer 4, Cai 3
The 28-point win is Toga’s 2nd largest in 21 years of their CCS history, second only to a 32-point win back in 2015-16!
They advance to the 2nd round, tomorrow at 7pm up at El Camino HS, which is South City’s district partner just up the road
A little preview: Toga beat South City 65-37, while El Camino beat South City just 51-39 and 51-41, so that’s some hope
On the other hand, their only other common opponent was Live Oak, who Toga lost to 24-28 while El Camino won 38-22
But tonight what an outstanding performance for the Falcons! Congrats!!
Also, the 28-point win was the 3rd-largest against South City this year, so the Falcons really proved they were amped up and ready
Toga improves to 14-11 on the year, which already has then in the upper half of total team wins over the last 21 years of record-keeping!
