In Friday's league contest, the visiting Mt. Vernon Mountaineers basketball team scored a close 42-37 triumph over the East Newton Patriots.
The Mountaineers (11-8) will now prepare for their contest against Lamar (Lamar, MO). The Tigers go into the Big 8 contest with a 6-6 record.
In their next game, the Patriots battle the Cassville Wildcats (Cassville, MO) in a Big 8 contest, on Tuesday, February 11. East Newton will attempt to better on its 10-6 season record. The Wildcats go into the contest with a 4-14 record after their 69-54 non-league loss to Galena (Galena, MO).
