In Thursday's non-league match, the visiting Newton Cardinals basketball team scored a good 54-44 triumph over the Van Meter Bulldogs.
In their next game, the Cardinals meet the Clarke Indians (Osceola, IA) in a non-league match, on Friday, February 9. Newton will attempt to better on its 8-10 season record. The Indians enter the match with a 17-3 record after their 77-38 non-league win over Central Decatur (Leon, IA).
With the defeat, Van Meter moves to 11-10 on the year.
