California High School Basketball - York bested by Greenfield

Greenfield Bruins (Greenfield, CA) supporters left the game happy Saturday as they witnessed their basketball squad run past the visiting York Falcons (Monterey, CA), 88-76 in a non-league match.
With the victory, Greenfield advances its record to 11-11 on the year. The Bruins travel to Pacific Collegiate (Santa Cruz, CA) to meet the Pumas in a PCAL - Cypress match on Tuesday, February 11. The Pumas enter the match with a record of 3-9. Pacific Collegiate lost 76-29 in their recent league match against Soledad (Soledad, CA)
The Falcons now own a 11-5 record. They put it on the line next when they host Anzar for a PCAL - Santa Lucia match on Monday, February 10.
First Quarter
Greenfield jumped out on York early, forcing 6 turnovers and converting them into points. Greenfield’s Johnny Miranda led the Grizzlies first quarter attack with 13 for the quarter. Miranda was just getting started for the Grizzlies who never trailed in this game. For Miranda, this was just the beginning of a career day for him.
Second Quarter
York finally settled down and started to compete with Greenfield. Although the Grizzlies won the quarter 30-29, and were leading the half time 50-37, the Falcons weren’t going to give up, and neither was Miranda. Miranda put the Grizzlies on his back the entire afternoon. Miranda scored 12 this quarter giving him 25 for the half.
Third Quarter
The third quarter was the Johnny Miranda show. Miranda was on fire. Greenfield scored 30 in the quarter, and Miranda had 25 of the Grizzlies 30 points, giving him a three quarter total of 50 points. Not to be out done in the third, the York Falcons scored 29 and were led by Dedome DemagboThe third quarter belonged to Johnny Miranda, who showcased his exceptional skills. Greenfield contributed 30 points in the quarter, while Miranda amassed 25 of the Grizzlies’ 30 points, securing a total of 50 points for the quarter. In response, the York Falcons scored 29 points, with Dedome Demagbo leading the charge with 16 points in the quarter.
Fourth Quarter
The lead was at 16 to start the quarter and the Falcons still had some fight left in them. They won the quarter 22-18, to close the gap to 12, but nothing more. Greenfield’s size was a bit too much for York, as there led was never challenged throughout the game. The Grizzlies were led by Johnny Miranda who scored a career high and school record 56 points. The grizzlies also got help from Chris Morris who scored 20. The Falcons were led by Dedome Demagbo’s season high 24 points. Also in double digits for the Falcon’s Gianni Zelgo 16, Miles Fadem and Bryan Kim added 14 points each.
