Ely Timberwolves (Ely, MN) backers were pleased Thursday as they saw their basketball squad knock off the host Mesabi East Giants (Aurora, MN), 58-49 in a non-league bout.

With the victory, Ely upgrades its record to 18-4 on the campaign. The Timberwolves travel to Floodwood (Floodwood, MN) to play the Polar Bears in a A Section 7 bout on Saturday, February 11. The Polar Bears come into the bout with a record of 11-5. Floodwood won 64-44 in their recent league bout against Deer River (Deer River, MN)

Next up, the Giants play the North Woods grizzlies (Cook, MN) in a non-league bout, on Monday, February 13. Mesabi East will attempt to upgrade on its 12-7 season record. The grizzlies come into the bout with a 10-9 record after their 83-22 league win over Fond du Lac Ojibwe Ogichida (Cloquet, MN).
