Laney Buccaneers (Wilmington, NC) backers exited the stadium thrilled Tuesday as they saw their softball squad nip the visiting Dixon Bulldogs (Holly Ridge, NC), 7-3 in a non-league challenge.

The Buccaneers now own a 1-0 record. They take the field next when they host Pender for a non-league challenge on Wednesday, March 2. Laney will battle a Patriots squad coming off a 11-0 non-league win over Union (Rose Hill, NC). The Patriots record now stands at 1-0.

With the loss, Dixon falls to 0-2 on the campaign. The Bulldogs host North Brunswick (Leland, NC) to battle the Scorpions in a non-league challenge on Monday, March 7. The Scorpions enter the challenge with a record of 1-1. North Brunswick won 10-5 in their recent non-league challenge against Jacksonville (Jacksonville, NC)
