Mecklenburg County Phoenix (Baskerville, VA) backers exited the stadium thrilled Wednesday as they saw their softball squad nip the host Amherst County Lancers (Amherst, VA), 9-3 in a non-league challenge.

The Phoenix now own a 1-1 record. They take the field next when they travel to Randolph-Henry for a non-league challenge on Thursday, March 14.

With the loss, Amherst County falls to 0-2 on the campaign. The Lancers host Nelson County (Lovingston, VA) to battle the Governors in a non-league challenge on Friday, March 15.
