Avery County Vikings (Newland, NC) backers exited the stadium thrilled Monday as they saw their softball squad nip the host Hampton Bulldogs (Hampton, TN), 13-10 in a non-league challenge.

The Vikings now own a 1-2 record. They take the field next when they travel to Draughn for a Western Highlands 1A/2A challenge on Tuesday, March 19. Avery County will battle a Wildcats squad coming off a 15-5 league win over Owen (Black Mountain, NC). The Wildcats record now stands at 4-2.

With the loss, Hampton falls to 0-4 on the campaign. The Bulldogs host Chuckey-Doak (Afton, TN) to battle the Black Knights in a 2A District 1 challenge on Tuesday, March 19. The Black Knights enter the challenge with a record of 0-1. Chuckey-Doak lost 18-0 in their recent non-league challenge against North Myrtle Beach (Little River, SC)
