In Thursday's non-league outing, the host Dreher Blue Devils soccer squad scored a tight 2-0 victory over the Cardinal Newman Cardinals.
The Blue Devils (4-5) will now prepare for their outing against South Pointe (Rock Hill, SC). The Stallions go into the AAAA Region 3 outing with a 4-0 record. In their last outing, South Pointe got by Lancaster (Lancaster, SC), 10-2, in a league outing.
Next up, the Cardinals confront the Heathwood Hall Episcopal Highlanders (Columbia, SC) in a SCISA AAA Region I outing, on Monday, March 24. Cardinal Newman will attempt to improve on its 1-4 season record. The Highlanders go into the outing with a 1-2 record after their 5-0 league loss to Ben Lippen (Columbia, SC).
Match Summary
It was a Windy evening in Columbia SC as Dreher hosted Cardinal Newman at Memorial Stadium. Dreher seemed to have the upper hand with several runs and shots early on. But it wasn't until the 26 minute when Chloe Riley, who hasn't seen much action this year due to illness, was able send a cross from the right side to a waiting Kasyn Jackson who quickly turned and places a perfect in the left corner to put Dreher up 1-0. Seven minutes later it was Chloe again. This time finding Jillian Muir who was able to get a body on the cross, settle the ball with the goalie and a defender on top of her a push the ball in for goal number two. There were several other well played balls and shots by OG Berzin and others but the final was 2-0. Kate Tyner got the shut out in goal.
