Martins Ferry Purple Riders (Martins Ferry, OH) backers exited the stadium thrilled Saturday as they saw their softball squad run past the host Wheeling Park Patriots (Wheeling, WV), 10-1 in a league challenge.

The Purple Riders now own a 1-0 record. They take the field next when they host Indian Creek for a Ohio Valley Athletic AAAA challenge on Wednesday, March 27. Martins Ferry will battle a Redskins squad coming off a 4-1 non-league loss to Meadowbrook (Byesville, OH). The Redskins record now stands at 0-1.

With the loss, Wheeling Park falls to 2-3 on the campaign. The Patriots host Brooke (Wellsburg, WV) to battle the Bruins in a Two Rivers challenge on Monday, March 25. The Bruins enter the challenge with a record of 0-5. Brooke lost 15-13 in their recent league challenge against Toronto (Toronto, OH)
