Russell County Lakers (Russell Springs, KY) backers exited the stadium thrilled Monday as they saw their softball squad nip the visiting Wayne County Cardinals (Monticello, KY), 11-9 in a non-league challenge.

The Lakers now own a 4-3 record. They take the field next when they travel to Southwestern for a non-league challenge on Tuesday, March 26. Russell County will battle a Warriors squad coming off a 15-5 non-league win over Lincoln County (Stanford, KY). The Warriors record now stands at 6-4.

With the loss, Wayne County falls to 1-6 on the campaign. The Cardinals travel to McCreary Central (Stearns, KY) to battle the Raiders in a District 48 challenge on Thursday, March 28. The Raiders enter the challenge with a record of 4-3. McCreary Central lost 10-0 in their recent non-league challenge against Corbin (Corbin, KY)
