Sturgis Brown Scoopers (Sturgis, SD) backers exited the stadium thrilled Thursday as they saw their softball squad nip the host Spearfish Spartans (Spearfish, SD), 13-6 in a league challenge.

The Scoopers now own a 1-0 record. They take the field next when they travel to Rapid City Central for a non-league challenge on Tuesday, April 2.

With the loss, Spearfish falls to 0-1 on the campaign. The Spartans host Aberdeen Central (Aberdeen, SD) to face the Golden Eagles in a Class AA challenge on Friday, April 5. The Golden Eagles enter the challenge with a record of 0-3. Aberdeen Central lost 21-0 in their recent league challenge against Jefferson (Sioux Falls, SD)
