Independence Wildcats (Independence, MS) backers exited the stadium thrilled Tuesday as they saw their softball squad nip the host Lake Cormorant (Lake Cormorant, MS), 8-2 in a non-league challenge.

The Wildcats now own a 7-3 record. They take the field next when they host Horn Lake for a non-league challenge on Thursday, March 31. Independence will face a Eagles squad coming off a 13-0 league loss to South Panola (Batesville, MS). The Eagles record now stands at 2-4.

With the loss, Lake Cormorant falls to 8-7 on the campaign. The travel to Lafayette (Oxford, MS) to face the Commodores in a 5A Region 1 challenge on Thursday, March 31. The Commodores enter the challenge with a record of 4-5. Lafayette won 13-2 in their recent league challenge against Cleveland Central (Cleveland, MS)
