The Athens Hornets (Athens, TX) softball routed the host Tyler Lions (Tyler, TX), 9-0 in Friday's non-league bout.

The Hornets (9-5) will now prepare for their bout against West Rusk (New London, TX). The Raiders go into the non-league bout with a 12-0 record. In their last bout, West Rusk defeated Brook Hill (Bullard, TX), 5-0, in a non-league challenge.

With the loss, Tyler falls to 2-5 on the campaign. The Lions host Hawkins (Hawkins, TX) to face the Hawks in a non-league challenge on Saturday, March 5. The Hawks enter the challenge with a record of 3-3. Hawkins lost 6-2 in their recent non-league challenge against Carthage (Carthage, TX)
