The crowd at Friday's non-league match between the Nixon-Smiley Mustangs (Nixon, TX) and the visiting La Vernia Bears (La Vernia, TX), saw Nixon-Smiley's softball squad nip La Vernia by a count of 7-5.

The Mustangs now sport a 3-5 record. They take the field next when they travel to Jourdanton for a non-league match on Friday, March 4. Nixon-Smiley will face a Indians/Squaws squad coming off a 12-4 non-league loss to Hondo (Hondo, TX). The Indians/Squaws record now stands at 7-3.

With the loss, La Vernia falls to 5-8 on the campaign. The Bears travel to Harlingen (Harlingen, TX) to face the Cardinals in a non-league match on Friday, March 4. The Cardinals enter the match with a record of 6-3. Harlingen lost 8-1 in their recent non-league match against Boerne (Boerne, TX)
