Lafayette Commodores (Oxford, MS) fans exited the stadium thrilled Monday as they saw their softball squad nip the visiting Southaven Chargers (Southaven, MS), 7-1 in a non-league challenge.

The Commodores now sport a 7-1 record. They take the field next when they travel to Hernando for a non-league challenge on Thursday, March 7. Lafayette will face a Tigers squad coming off a 5-2 non-league loss to South Panola (Batesville, MS). The Tigers record now stands at 8-4.

With the loss, Southaven falls to 2-1 on the campaign. The Chargers travel to DeSoto Central (Southaven, MS) to face the Jaguars in a 7A Region 1 challenge on Thursday, March 7. The Jaguars enter the challenge with a record of 6-1. DeSoto Central lost 2-1 in their recent non-league challenge against Grenada (Grenada, MS)
