Sumter Fighting Gamecocks (Sumter, SC) backers exited the stadium thrilled Tuesday as they saw their softball squad nip the host Lakewood Gators (Sumter, SC), 7-2 in a non-league challenge.

The Fighting Gamecocks now own a 3-5 record. They take the field next when they travel to West Florence for a non-league challenge on Thursday, March 10. Sumter will battle a Knights squad coming off a 11-0 league win over Wilson (Florence, SC). The Knights record now stands at 5-1.

With the loss, Lakewood falls to 1-1 on the campaign. The Gators host Marlboro County (Bennettsville, SC) to battle the Bulldogs in a AAA Region 6 challenge on Tuesday, April 5. The Bulldogs enter the challenge with a record of 1-1.
