Newman Central Catholic Comets (Sterling, IL) fans exited the stadium thrilled Thursday as they saw their softball squad nip the host Dixon Dukes & Duchesses (Dixon, IL), 3-0 in a non-league challenge.

The Comets now sport a 3-5 record. They take the field next when they travel to Erie-Prophetstown for a non-league challenge on Friday, April 12. Newman Central Catholic will face a Panthers squad coming off a 9-4 league win over Monmouth-Roseville (Monmouth, IL). The Panthers record now stands at 4-5.

With the loss, Dixon falls to 2-9 on the campaign. The Dukes & duchesses host Lutheran (Rockford, IL) to face the Crusaders in a Big Northern challenge on Friday, April 12. The Crusaders enter the challenge with a record of 1-9. Lutheran lost 12-2 in their recent league challenge against Winnebago (Winnebago, IL)
