Sandia Matadors (Albuquerque, NM) backers exited the stadium thrilled Wednesday as they saw their softball squad nip the visiting Volcano Vista Hawks (Albuquerque, NM), 14-13 in a non-league challenge.

The Matadors now own a 12-7 record. They take the field next when they travel to La Cueva for a 5A District 2 challenge on Saturday, April 15. Sandia will battle a Bears squad coming off a 12-4 non-league win over Cibola (Albuquerque, NM). The Bears record now stands at 16-3.

With the loss, Volcano Vista falls to 13-9 on the campaign. The Hawks host Cibola (Albuquerque, NM) to battle the Cougars in a 5A District 1 challenge on Friday, April 14. The Cougars enter the challenge with a record of 17-4. Cibola lost 12-4 in their recent non-league challenge against La Cueva (Albuquerque, NM)
